I have started really loving hiking. I feel so much better after a good hike. It’s something that I imagine doing with my son in the future. I have these little fantasies of hiking Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon with him. I decided maybe it’s time to see if he has his hiking legs under him yet.
I took an old Camelback water pack and got it ready for him. He put the little water backpack on and I found a trail that said it was family friendly. It was marked at .3 miles. I figured this would be enough time to see if he was going to like it, or if he’d totally hate it and complain the entire time. I really didn’t know what to expect.
Once we got started he loved it. He climbed the rocks, chased the butterflies, and pointed out the wild mushrooms. We agreed we made good explorers. He kept reassuring me his legs weren’t tired so we kept walking. He made it 3 miles. I was so blown away by him. I started to wear down towards the end of the 3 miles so I could only imagine how his 5 year old tiny body must be doing. We hopped creeks, chased beetles, balanced on fallen logs, and did lots of exploring. He definitely has his hiking legs and I have my little hiking partner. I’m super excited about future hikes!
