I moved a few months ago to a part of town I’m not familiar with. I’ve been on the road so much for work that I haven’t really had much of a chance to explore. Right behind my house is a creek and trail. I often walk it in the evenings, taking along my son on his bike or my gigantic polar bear of a dog.
Tonight I looked at my pedometer and saw that I was still a little ways from my step goal. I do have to note though, that since I started my Adventure Challenge, I have lost 7 pounds. I’m not eating any different, I’m just moving more. This has helped add more motivation to finding an adventure.
Tonight I decided to choose a different way. Finding an adventure is as simple as that. It can be simply taking a left where you normally take a right. I ended up finding a whole new trail. It was lush and green with wetland plants. I also discovered a sort of nature area that is privately owned that runs along the trail. I couldn’t find any information on the internet, but was told that it’s owned by someone who refuses to develop it. It’s beautiful and makes you feel like you really are in a nature preserve. We crossed the creek several times where the polar bear decided to sit for a bit. It was a beautiful hike right around sunset. It’s also made me realize how much there is still to discover around me. We become so complacent with doing things in our routines, we often forget that there can be adventure right out our back doors.
