Adventure Challenge – Day 39: Sun Poisoning

Todays challenge is pretty much a follow up of Day 38 Challenge. I floated down the Niangua River this past weekend. It was a lot of sun. Even though I slathered myself in SPF 50 multiple times, I still got burnt…bad. Sunburns aren’t something new to me (again, that ginger thing). Its not bad enough to blister.

I hopped on a plane, few to Orlando, and worked all day. I won’t lie, my legs are fried and they hurt. Worse yet is that I have to wear black slacks and I’m outside in the Florida sun all week.

Growing up I used vinegar to take out the fever. I can’t really go to work smelling pickled so I perused the aisles at the pharmacy. I came out with lotions and potions. I doused myself in Noxzema. After my skin absorbed all of that, I doused myself again. I then took a hot bath. I sprayed myself with Calamine lotion and slept like a baby. This morning the fever was reduced and I sprayed myself with Calamine again. I drank water all day.

When I got back to the hotel and took off my shoes, I realized that my ankles are so swollen I can’t even see my ankles. I look deformed. Totally freaked me out. After sending out some pics to doctor friends I got a lot of different advice. The common advice I got was elevate, ibuprofen, water, and ice packs. So tonight, I am nursing sun poison. I have my bottle of water, ice packs, watermelon, and ibuprofen has been taken.
