While in Dallas last week I received a phone call that my kiddo was sick. This meant that I would have no time to find an outfit for a fundraiser the night after I got back. I decided with a few hours to kill before my flight home I would stop in a little boutique next to Starbucks that had some party dresses in the window.
This place was called the Sassy Flamingo in Trophy Club, TX. The owner, Shirley, was fabulous and called me “Darlin’”. I got completely distracted from finding a dress when I walked in and immediately saw handcrafted cowboy boots. I instantly fell in love. I pulled a few to try on. I started falling in love with dresses right away.
Let me add here that I find shopping incredibly frustrating. I don’t like it. Most clothes are too short and not age appropriate. However, I don’t want to look frumpy and older either. Rarely can I find clothes that fit me well that also look good on me. Hence why I live in paint pants and yoga pants.
Before I knew it, Shirley had me in a dressing room playing dress up. She brought me dresses and boots to try on together. Next thing I knew, there were customers involved in my transformation. They’re dressing me with accessories like belts and jewelry I would never normally even consider. Shirley put me in front of the mirror and spoke my language. She talked about how I’m the canvas and the rest is the painting. A whole lot of money later, I walked out in a new outfit with a bag full of boots and clothes.
Within the first 20 minutes I was complimented 5 times by the outfit and “look” Shirley had picked out for me. I just wish I could have brought her home with me to dress me all the time.
