I am not a morning person. Not even a little bit. I don’t often see a sunrise, and if I do it’s because I’m on a plane or on my way to the airport. This week was different. My work was in Berkeley and it was outdoors overlooking the harbor. I had a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was absolutely breathtaking. I noticed a little distance down the coast there was a trail. I saw people walking their dogs on the trail all day and on occasion people running. I decided I had to see what it was all about.
The next morning before work I grabbed a coffee and headed out down the trail. I made another friend this week and I invited her to meet me. It was so beautiful. It’s in a place called Albany Bulb. Locals informed me that it is an old landfill. There are dirt trails throughout. There is also a lot of interesting graffitied rocks along the way. I made it to the very end in time to see the sunrise. Out in the distance the city glowed bright white as if it was glowing. It was so beautiful. Unfortunately my phone doesn’t take good enough pictures to capture it.
There is something about being up that early. The air is crisp. There is an energy with the rise of the sun that invigorates. Once I finished my coffee and watched the sunrise my new friend and I found the perfect spot for her to make a quick business conference call. We sat under giant palm trees while she talked. I got up and explored the rocks a little. When her call was done we ran back down the trail to our car.
This was a way better way to start my morning than jumping out of bed and rushing to get to work. The scenery is just so inviting it’s hard not to want to get as much of it as you can.
